Completion does not instantly erase the financial history
Finishing a debt arrangement and removing historical information from a credit report are different events. The applicable retention rules depend on the jurisdiction and the type of entry. Check that the report accurately reflects the status of the account or procedure, including completion or discharge where relevant. A score offered by one reporting agency is only one view of the information a future lender may consider.
Correct errors through the proper route
In the UK, statutory credit reports and the Information Commissioner’s guidance help people understand access and correction rights. Report inaccurate data with supporting evidence to the appropriate organisation. A company promising to delete accurate adverse history for a fee deserves scrutiny. Future affordability also matters: a corrected report does not create spare income, so rebuilding a stable payment record should accompany any consideration of a new loan.
