An informal plan still depends on the affordability assessment
A UK debt management plan generally reorganises payments through voluntary agreements rather than imposing the same rules as formal insolvency. That does not make additional borrowing harmless. The plan is based on the surplus available after necessary expenses; a new instalment uses part of the same money. It can undermine the proposed distribution and raise questions about whether the arrangement remains sustainable for the existing creditors.
Discuss the reason for borrowing with the plan provider
If the household needs credit because the budget repeatedly fails, request a review of income and essential spending. Ask how the provider treats new borrowing and what any change would mean for creditor agreements. A DMP should not be confused with a consolidation loan that pays off the accounts through fresh credit. Compare both the immediate expense and the longer term debt position before accepting an offer.
