Small minimum payments can conceal a large commitment
Several credit cards can make spending appear fragmented even though every balance draws on the same income. A minimum payment may keep an account moving without reducing principal quickly, particularly when new purchases continue. Record the balance, interest terms and payment date of each card together. Cash withdrawals, expired introductory offers and repeated transfers deserve their own review because they can change the cost of carrying the debt.
Ask what a revised payment would actually achieve
Contact card providers with a current income and spending statement if ordinary payments are no longer realistic. In a UK debt assessment, unsecured card borrowing is considered alongside essential household bills and other obligations. A transfer or consolidation offer only helps if the complete repayment plan is affordable, including fees and the rate after any promotion. Independent advice can test alternatives before unused limits become fresh spending capacity.
